Have you been searching for a list of Aristocats names to sift through? If you’re naming a new feline arrival or want to test your knowledge of these famous characters, you’ll find everything you need right here!
It’s no secret that The Aristocats was one of the most impressive classic Disney success stories.
With a budget of just $4 million, the film managed to rake in an impressive $191 million at the Box Office.
Now that’s a tidy profit for a movie about cats!
Although the movie was released way back in 1970, it still has a major hold over Disney fans to this day.
For that reason, you still have keen kitty adopters who are on the hunt for Aristocats names to suit their new feline friends!
From the glorious Duchess to the handsome Thomas O’Malley and mischevious Marie, there’s a name in here for everyone.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough to draw you in, I’ll even suggest a bunch of other Disney cat names and a few French and American picks.
That’s right, you’ll have no trouble naming your cat with me on the case!
Who Are the Aristocats?
The Aristocats follows the story of a gorgeous pedigreed cat called Duchess and her 3 mischievous kittens Toulouse, Berlioz, and Marie.
The film is set in 1910 and starts by introducing us to the iconic retired opera singer Madame Adelaide Bonfamille.
Yup – she’s just as fabulous as she sounds.
The cats are utterly pampered and spoiled as they live in a huge mansion. That explains why they’re cultured, elegant, and skilled in the arts.
The story really kicks off when Madame reveals that her enormous wealth will be left to her cat Duchess and her kittens.
She mentions that only when all the cats have reached the end of their lives would her vast fortune be given to her butler Edgar.
Of course, Edgar overhears Madame’s conversation with her elderly lawyer Georges Harcourt and all hell breaks loose.
Well, kind of.
Edgar sedates the cats by putting sleeping pills in a dish of cream before dumping them out in the countryside where they’re stranded.
And that’s where the cats meet Thomas O’Malley and the rest of the Alley Cats.
I won’t give the whole plot away, but there’s a great happy ending and a serious comeuppance for the nasty Edgar!
What Are the Aristocats Names?
Duchess
Let’s start our list of Aristocats names right where the story starts – with our mother cat Duchess!
It’s no secret that Duchess is absolutely gorgeous with her long white fur, sapphire-blue eyes, and elegant personality.
And hey, you can’t beat her gorgeous gold collar that’s studded with diamonds.
She’s the female protagonist in the movie and belongs to the caring and devoted Madame Adelaide Bonfamille.
She’s kind and loving toward all of her children and tries her best to make them upstanding members of French society.
As they’re kittens, she has varying degrees of success with this!
Interestingly, Duchess is set to inherit Madame Bonfamille’s entire fortune when she dies (followed by her butler Edgar after the cats pass away).
And there starts the story where Edgar plots to remove the cats from the inheritance.
Yup – it’s a total scandal, but it leads to an awfully big adventure.
Toulouse
Okay, so Toulouse is a spicy boy who’s known for his small and plump appearance.
He also has orange fur (like his idol Thomas O’Malley!) and often hisses and puffs up his fur to look tougher.
So, typical kitten behavior.
Aside from being a bit spiky, Toulouse is relatively laid-back and easygoing as the painter of the family.
Marie
I’d say that Marie is the breakout star from The Aristocats as people just love the way she looks.
Like Duchess, she’s a purebred Turkish Angora who wears a pink bow and a pink collar.
She’s the middle child, but she doesn’t let anyone pass her over as she has a bossy attitude and bundles of confidence.
In other words, she’s a little lady who’s trying to emulate her mother (with a touch less elegance!).
She’s also a hopeless romantic and is often seen sighing and daydreaming over her mother’s budding romance with Thomas O’Malley.
Berlioz
Berlioz is the youngest Aristocat kitten and is known for his shy demeanor and mischievous personality.
He’s skilled at playing the piano (as he practices his scales and arpeggios a lot!) and can get easily annoyed.
Hey, that’s what being a younger sibling is all about, right?
He has gorgeous blue eyes, dark gray fur, and wears a small red ribbon around his neck like a collar.
Berlioz is also on the small side (AKA: pint-sized!) which makes him look even cuter than his siblings.
Thomas O’Malley the Alley Cat
Thomas O’Malley is the male protagonist of The Aristocats and is seen as a streetwise and smooth cat who adores his life of no responsibilities.
After meeting Duchess, he starts to change his tune and realizes that there’s more to life than being a free spirit.
He immediately clicks with Duchess’s kittens and protects them when times get tough.
In terms of his appearance, he’s a ginger tomcat known for his yellow eyes, kind face, and big whiskers.
He’s often found alongside his brother and sister at the Disney parks.
I’d say he’s tough to spot at Walt Disney World, but you can meet him quite easily at Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.
Shun Gon
Next on my rundown of Aristocats names is Shun Gon.
He’s the Siamese cat from the Alley Cats group who’s known for playing piano and drums with chopsticks.
Hit Cat
Hit Cat is an English cat who plays acoustic guitar in the Alley Cats band.
Peppo
As you might have guessed from his name, Peppo is an Italian cat who plays the concertina in the jazz band.
Billy Boss
The final cat in the Alley Cat crew is Billy Boss who’s a straight-talking Russian cat who plays the double base.
Scat Cat
Scat Cat is the big boss of the Alley Cats and plays the trumpet (and sings!).
Other Animal Names in the Aristocats
Although we’re talking about The Aristocats CAT names here, I thought it was also worth mentioning the names of the other animals in the movie.
They’re just as important and they might strike a chord with you when you’re brainstorming names for your fearsome feline!
- Roquefort – a charming mouse who lives with Duchess and her kittens in Madame’s mansion.
- Frou Frou – Roquefort’s horse friend that is a key player in the fight against the evil Edgar.
- Napoleon – a friendly bloodhound dog who frees Duchess and her kittens.
- Lafayette – a basset hound who is Napoleon’s right-hand man.
- Amelia and Abigail Gabble – a pair of British geese who come to Thomas O’Malley’s aid
- Waldo – Amelia and Abigail Gabble’s uncle.

FAQs
Who is Toulouse named after?
Believe it or not, Toulouse the cat is named after a couple of different things.
It’s likely that his name is an homage to the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
It’s also worth mentioning that there’s also an entire city in France called Toulouse. This may well have inspired this Aristocat’s name.
Who is the oldest Aristocats kitten?
Speaking of Toulouse, he’s the oldest Aristocat kitten! He seriously idolizes the badass alleycats (his favorite is Thomas O’Malley, of course!).
Who is the father of Duchess’s kittens?
The father of the Aristocat kittens is never mentioned in the movie, but Thomas O’Malley essentially becomes their stepdad at the end of the film.
And that’s because Thomas O’Malley and Duchess live Happily Ever Cat-ver!
Yep, I’m all about those Happily Ever After puns.
What breed is Duchess the cat?
It’s believed that both Duchess and Marie are Turkish Angora cats with blue eyes and long white fur.
Is Marie the youngest Aristocat?
Although Marie might act like the baby of the family, she isn’t the youngest Aristocat – that prize goes to Berloiz!
Are the Aristocats siblings?
Yes, the Aristocats are siblings despite looking completely different from one another.
This is actually quite common among cats in the same litter as male kittens inherit color from the father and female cats are a combination.
The more you know, right?
What is the Siamese cat’s name in The Aristocats?
The Siamese cat in The Aristocats is called Shun Gon!
